Decades of experience in civil litigation
Civil Litigation. In addition to association law, the firm also has a civil litigation department that handles a variety of civil cases, including insurance defense and coverage issues. With a new litigation team set to join the firm in February 2021, our civil litigators will handle a wide variety of cases, including automobile liability, catastrophic injury, business litigation, premises and products liability and traumatic brain injury. This department also supports the firm’s community association practice when the firm’s association clients find themselves in litigation.

Chadwick Washington was formed in 1990 by three attorneys, including current firm principals Ken Chadwick and Wil Washington. The demand for a focused community association law firm became apparent, and the firm has grown along with the market. Chadwick Washington is now one of the largest community association practice groups in the United States, with 18 association attorneys and numerous collection paralegals.
In 2021, the firm is adding a civil litigation department that works with insurance carriers and other business entities. Our firm will have multiple civil litigators who are AV rated and capable of handling a wide variety of matters. Our civil litigators also assist the firm’s community association clients when the need arises.
The firm has been based in Fairfax, Virginia since 1990 and opened a Richmond office in 1998. Over the years, the firm has grown to represent associations in all areas of the Commonwealth, including a major presence in the Roanoke and Smith Mountain Lake area.
While based in Virginia, the firm has a strong practice in the District of Columbia, representing associations of all sizes, including some of the most substantial and exclusive condominium buildings in the District.

Chadwick Washington is a long-standing member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), an educational trade group which forwards the interests of community associations by lobbying on behalf of the industry and providing educational opportunities for managers and volunteer leaders. The firm has memberships in the following chapters:
- Central Virginia — firm shareholders Ken Chadwick, Andrew Elmore, Jerry M. Wright and Mike Sottolano are past presidents. Associate attorney Leslie Rigney is the current immediate past-president.
- Washington Metropolitan — firm shareholders Ken Chadwick, Brendan P. Bunn, Wil Washington, Allen Warren and Bruce Easmunt have all served as presidents of this Chapter, the largest in the nation.
- Southwest Virginia – firm shareholder Steve Moriarty is a past president and was instrumental in founding the Chapter, and Mike Sottolano is on the Chapter board as well, currently serving as immediate past president.
The firm’s attorneys regularly teach educational programs and seminars at both the local and national levels for CAI.
